The forest teaches us things, gives us our food and medicines. It supplies materials for our spiritual life. All of these things, the forest offers to us, it is part of our lives

Young foresters' movement spreads across Azerbaijan

Monday May 14, 2012

In order to expand the school-based young foresters’ network across the country, seminars titled “School of the Young Foresters – value of ecological education of school students in the area of forest protection and sustainable forest use” were organized.

The first seminar was held on April 26 2012 in a secondary school in the Ismailli region and the second one on April 27 in the Avakhil village of the Shamakha region.

The seminars discussed the main directions for the development of the young foresters’ movement. Among them are the setting up of new brigades, the participation of students in forest rehabilitation and protection activities, and perspectives of student participation in international contests. Young foresters delivered presentations showcasing their achievements on forest rehabilitation and protection, research on the anthropogenic impact on the ecological state of the forests, the protection of natural monuments, and public awareness work on sustainable forest management among the local population.

Among the propositions made by teachers were to continue the work on developing visual manuals and leaflets dedicated to the activities of the young foresters, as well as to consider possibilities of providing the brigades with the necessary tools and equipment for conducting the research work. The poster “Life of the forest” and calendars were shared with the seminar’s participants.

Alongside ENPI FLEG Program’s Coordinator Azer Garayev the seminar was attended by representatives of the districts’ ecological departments, senior foresters, heads of the regional ecological administration, school directors, teachers and young foresters from the rural schools.
